DJ Ariel fell off the turnip truck from the Okanagan and wandered into Downtown Vancouver in her early teens. Her love of E-40, C-Bo, and The Boyz N The Hood OST lead her to Gangstarr, Souls Of Mischief and Redman, which brought her to what is likely the largest collection of female Hip Hop records in the world. She?s warmed crowds up for Bahamadia, Ursula Rucker, Kardinal Official, Tumi and the Volume, Kuttin Kandi and Swollen Members. Her skills have also been utilized as part of the live shows of: Moka Only, Ishkan, Birdapres and Eternia to name a few. A consummate performer, party rocker and musical educator, she?s behind a few classic mixtapes dating back to the cassette era, and has played records for people from Toronto to Seattle. With a background that includes dance, activism, Hip Hop production and film, she?s a renaissance woman of the first order. Currently, Ariel is working on the Break North Hip Hop Convention planned for next summer in Vancouver, and a full length LP. She is also interested in researching and preserving the history of women?s involvement in Hip Hop culture, and sharing that with the world in a variety of ways.
